I took my first pedals at 5 after getting a bike for my birthday. I discovered a BMX track near where I lived and got into racing. I started going to all the local tracks and BMX is where my bike skills first developed.

Then Air Rec opened and when my friends and I weren’t racing we would spend hours there pushing ourselves to hit bigger jumps and do bigger tricks. In 2019 I went to Wam Bam and Hucken Berries, getting my first taste of FMB competition and I knew it was something I wanted to pursue. In 2020, BMX racing was shut down, but Whistler was open, so I got a 24” trail bike to ride the bike park and fell in love instantly.

My BMX racing days are behind me, but it was a special time of my life that I will always have fond memories of. Between slopestyle and freeride, mountain biking is now my sole focus. I love the rewards that come from pushing myself and learning new things. Every season I am excited to see how I will grow and what I will learn.

@ Rex Johnson

"Rex developed his sharp bike-handling skills early on through the fast-paced world of BMX racing. However, a single trip to AirRec sparked a new passion, prompting him to spend all his free time outside of racing hitting dirt jumps and learning tricks with friends.

Our partnership with Rex began in 2025 with a fresh Signature, and today he's piloting a seriously dialed Throwdown. Rex's rapid progression as a rider is incredible to watch. We’re proud to support this local talent and are excited to see just how far his skills will take him.

"I have always had an admiration for Chromag and they were a dream sponsor. Seeing so many people that I looked up to riding Chromag bikes and components I wanted to be a part of that. When Marcel let me try his prototype Signature I couldn’t believe how good it felt. I wanted one. I reached out to Chromag and was able to get on the team for 2025, representing them on the Signature when it came out. A dream come true."
