Why we made this

We made the Trailmaster DT as a durable, waterproof version of our popular Trailmaster saddle. By using a synthetic top, it holds up better in wet conditions and is easier to keep clean over time.
It shares the same trusted shape as the original Trailmaster: a supportive platform with a wider nose for forward positioning, soft edges for easy movement, and balanced foam density for a consistent feel on both short efforts and long rides.

Lynx DT Mountain Bike Saddle Chromag Bikes MTB seats
Durable Top

Our DT (Durable Top) is a synthetic covering for riders who see a lot of wet weather or for DH and Freeride applications where extra durability is needed.

Available on Lynx DT, Mood DT and Trailmaster DT.

Note: Most of our LTD models use more exotic materials and as such, don't use the DT.

Cro-Mo Rails

We use cr-mo (Chromoly Steel) rails on all of our saddles for tried and tested strength and durability.

Saddle FAQ's

For "trail" riding, a good rule of thumb is level with the ground on a flat surface. In other words, horizontal.

Tipping the nose down can aid in comfort on steep climbs, however DJ and DH riders tend to lift the nose above the horizontal, for extra leg control.

Yes! We have a demo fleet of saddles available at Chromag HQ in Whistler.

In short, yes.

Leather saddles can be treated with surface conditioners.  Check with your local hardware store, shoe maker or leather specialist for available products.  Note that different conditioners can have different effects on the leather (IE. softening or discoloration).  The user takes all responsibility for the results of any treatments applied to the saddle.

It’s important to know that the cover of a saddle is made of soft material and by that nature, it will start changing from the day you start using it.

Leather saddles are likely to go through more change than DT saddles. (See aftercare)

The denim and canvas LTD editions are expected to both absorb dirt, and wear in organic ways.

You can read the full user guide here, but to avoid any kind of creaking, make sure the rails and the seatpost clamp are spotlessly clean!

If something is creaking, remove the saddle from the post and make sure the rails and clamps are clean. You'd be amazed how much noise a bit of dirt can make.

As for the finish, any DT saddles don't really need any aftercare. However it's not a bad idea to treat any leather saddle with some high quality leather treatment from time to time (like you might use for leather gloves for example).

Customers praised this bike saddle as "the most comfortable" they've tried, with many noting it excels on long rides. One said it's "like a couch for your bike." The wide nose prevents numbness during climbs. Reviews highlight exceptional durability and customer service. Minor concerns include material untucking and weight, though most find comfort outweighs this.

Love the new saddle!

The order came quick and I immediately installed it for an upcoming race. Before riding I noticed the material was slightly untucked but I had to race... sent a photo in without expectations just to let Chromag know about the defect (it was really minor), had a new one arrive at my door in a matter of days!

Amazing saddle and even better people! Chromag kicks ass!

Material was untucking from the start

Unfortunately the material on the seat is already coming out. I have a photo to send if you'd like to see.
5 stars for comfort though.

Supportive Friend

It feels like 20 years ago when I got my first Trailmaster saddle and living in the Fraser Valley where all the climbs were long grinding fire roads. The rear of the saddle has always matched similar widths to many trail saddles, but for me the magic of this seat is in the nose width and cushion. The nose width allows you to lean into it on the climbs and not go numb "down there". Over the years I've tried a number of other saddles and always come back to the Trailmaster. Simple looks, performance at an affordable prize, takes a beating and it's never made me numb.

Favorite saddle I've tried

I really like the Trailmaster saddle. Seems to fit me right for any length of ride I might do, and holds up well. My only complaint is that it's a little bulky, but that's mainly just aesthetics.

My go to saddle

I have owned 4 Trailmaster saddles over the years and am currently using one on my commuter bike and one on my trail bike. I find it comfortable even when riding without a chamois. They are also super durable and will last a long time.

My saddle for the past 3 years

I've been on a trailmaster DT saddle for the past 3 years now and there's no turning back. The rails stayed strong on multiple butt impacts and bike crashes and there's not even a tear in the fabric! The big bonus comes from the amazing style that this saddle has over any other options. Buy one now

The search is over

Finding the right seat can be a long, painful, and expensive process. This is hands down the most comfortable seat I've used in my 25+ years of biking. Whether it's all day backcountry missions or laps at the ski hill it does the trick. No matter the conditions the seat performs well, in wet or dry, and works great in the cold on my fat bike in the winter. I've riden it for over 5 years on several bikes and still going strong. Some have said it's heavy or expensive, maybe, but no more sore ass is totally worth it, and if I was concerned about weight I'd eat less. Try one out you won't be disappointed.

Firm sofa for your butt

Most comfortable saddle I've ever tried, well-padded but not too soft. Quite durable. A bit thicker than my other saddle so I had to lower my seatpost about 1/2".

Comfortable

I love this saddle. It was comfortable for almost every ride. little plastic cap on the bottom of it fell out after a few days which was disappointing but it doesnt affect the functionality of it.

One for all the bikes

Saddles are definitely a personal thing, but I now have a few Trailmasters and love them. The shape and padding work great for long days in the saddle, they take the abuse of crashing on rocks without flinching, and look awesome. Can't go wrong!

Put the Chamois in your saddle - where it belongs

It's been 4 years since I've freed the chamois, and it's mostly thanks to this saddle. Super comfortable for all day missions - I've even put one on my gravel bike. I run the DT version for our west coast weather and it looks amazing after years of abuse. I did break a rail on a 5 year old Trailmaster, but it spanned a few bikes and many thousands of km's of abuse!

Very durable comfortable saddle.

Both my brother and myself have been using chromag saddles since 2009, the trailmastsr dt seems to suite our bums very well. It’s as though these saddles were tailor made for us. Super comfortable on long rides, very durable and hard wearing most of our bikes run chromag saddles. Fantastic very well made product highly highly recommended

Really comfortable saddle

I always had a hard time finding a good saddle for my trail bike, but I think once I setup the Trailmaster properly, it has been a pleasure to spend more time on the bike, without the soreness I experienced with my previous saddles.

One of the most comfortable saddles I've ridden on

Was debating between this and the Lynx DT to put on my new 2019 Giant Trance, but after riding with this I knew for sure I wanted this one. If I ever get an Enduro or Downhill bike I will be getting a Lynx for the profile, but for trail riding, the Trailmaster is the way to go. I'm a skinny dude so I don't find too many saddles comfortable for myself, but I love this!

Would highly recommend, also thinking about getting one for my gravel bike

Go-To

Trailmaster is my go-to saddle for my trail/DH bike. The flat sides offer a great surface to pinch for no-handers, and comfort against the thighs for controlling the bike. If you're looking for a comfy seat, this is the one you want.

decent saddle

Like most Chromag products it is overpriced right out of the gate. The price was a little bit high considering that it has chromoly rails and not a lighter material. Buying any kind of saddle has always been a pain for cyclists because they tend to be way over priced.
Pros: comfortable
Cons: expensive

Chromag Trailmaster DT

The Good: Light and Durable
The Bad: Can be uncomfortable

Overall Review:
The seat is light and very durable due to the kevlar corners. The colour I got was green which I like but I wish there were more colour options also the seat can be a bit uncomfortable. The balance between comfort and weight is almost perfect as far as I'm concerned. Overall this is a great seat.

What would be my ideal saddle width?
My sit bones are 130mm
Thanks

- Chromag Crew:

Hi Doug,
Difficult to say, as this is a personal preference. But the Trailmaster has a width of 140mm. The Lift is a bit wider at 146mm, and the Lynx a bit narrower at 135mm.
Are you able to sit on a few saddles at your local bike shop? Or are you able to drop by at HQ in Whistler?

Hope this helps,
cheers,
J-M

Interested in a trail master dt in green but although it shows in the picture it’s not showing in the range?

- Chromag Crew:

Hi Mark,
Unfortunately the Green variation has now been discontinued.

Would you be able to share when the orange and black trailmaster dt saddle will be available? It has been out of stock for the last few months and wondering if I should keep holding out.

- Chromag Crew:

Hi there,
supposedly this week, so keep your eyes peeled!
